SCSU Field Hockey Battles Nationally-Ranked Adelphi, But Falls Short

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut State University field hockey lost to nationally-ranked No. 10 Adelphi, 3-1, in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup at Jess Dow Field. With the loss, Southern dropped to 5-6 overall and 2-3 in conference play while Adelphi improved to 7-3 overall and remain undefeated in NE10 action at 6-0.

Ruby Webb scored the Owls' only goal in the game on an assist from freshman Kaiya Mercier. Webb's goal was the second of the season while Mercier picked up her first assist of the season. The goal was also the first goal scored against Adelphi in four games after the Panthers posted three-straight shutouts. It was also just the third goal allowed against a NE10 team this season.



Rachel Miller turned in another inspired performance as she turned back seven of Adelphi's 10 shots on goal. The Owls went blow-for-blow with the top-10 team from Garden City as the Panthers had 11 shots to Southern's 10 while also holding a 6-5 advantage in corners.

Southern is back in action when it travels to Orangeburg, N.Y. to take on St. Thomas Aquinas in a NE10 matchup set for 12 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 11. The Owls then head to Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. to take on Mercy on Tuesday, Oct. 14 before returning home to face Saint Anselm on Saturday, Oct. 18.
