SCSU Volleyball to Face Bentley in First NE10 Championship Semifinal Appearance Since 2022

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut volleyball will face Bentley in the Northeast 10 Conference Volleyball Championship Semifinals on Friday, Nov. 21 at 5:00 p.m. in Waltham, Massachusetts. It is the first NE10 Championship Semifinals appearance for the Owls since 2022.

NE10 Championship Quarterfinals Recap:
The Owls advanced to the NE10 Semifinals after a 3-1 victory over #5 Saint Michael's on Nov. 18 In Pelz Gym.

Sydney Bennett and Kimi Mitchell led the Owls with 12 kills against Saint Michael's. Mitchell totaled her sixth double-double of the season with a career-best of 12 kills and 33 assists. Kerrigan Habing added 10 kills, as Sarah Henault had a team-best of five service aces while Dylan Marney and Kimi Mitchell had three. Sydney Bennett and Sarah Stark recorded a team-best of three blocks as Victoria Pascual had two. Sarah Henault totaled a team-best of 12 digs, Ceci Carter had a career-best of 11 digs and Kimi Mitchell had seven digs against the Purple Knights. 
 
Southern took the first set, 25-17, with Sydney Bennett leading the way with four kills while Kerrigan Habing had four. Kimi Mitchell also dished out eight assists in the set. Southern and Saint Michael's matched each other's runs over the first frame, with Southern holding onto an 18-15 lead. The Owls closed out the first set with a 7-3 run to take a 1-0 lead. 

The second set saw Habing and Mitchell pace the Owls, with each totaling three kills, as Southern won 25-19, after scoring the first six points of the set. Sarah Henault had four service aces in the second set alone, within the first six points of the set, which included three straight-aces. The Owls held a lead of 12-4 before St. Michael's pull within four, 15-11. Southern held on the rest of the way for the win. 

Saint Michael's took an early lead in the third set and control the game to a 10-5 lead. Southern used a 9-4 run to tie it at 14-14, and after three-straight kills by setter Mitchell, the Owls had a 17-16 lead. Saint Michael's refused to go away, eventually taking a 21-20 lead and forcing a timeout. The Purple Knights went on a 4-1 one to close out the third and force the fourth game. 

The fourth set saw both teams continue their back-and-forth battle, this time working to an 8-8 tie. Southern used a 13-4 run, with Bennett posting six kills, to take a 21-12 lead. The Purple Knights chipped away down the stretch, but the Owls held on for the win. 
 
This Season vs. Bentley:
Oct. 17 – Bentley 3, SCSU 0
 
Southern Connecticut fell to Bentley, 3-0, on Oct. 17 in Waltham, Massachusetts. Sydney Bennett had a team-best of six kills, Kerrigan Habing had four kills, and Victoria Pascual had three kills. Sarah Henault led the Owls with two service aces and 13 digs, as Kimi Mitchell had six digs and Pascual had five. Mitchell had a team-best of 23 assists while Sydney Bennett had a team-best of four blocks while Sarah Stark and Mitchell had two blocks against the Falcons.
 
2025 Season Overview:
Overall Record: 16-7
NE10 Record: 6-3
 
The Owls started the 2025 season with a four-match win streak and then went on a six-match win streak, halfway through the season. Southern clinched the fourth seed with a 3-1 victory over Saint Anselm on Nov. 14.
 
In the NE10, Sydney Bennett is ranked fourth in hitting percentage with .322 and is ranked fifth in blocks with an average of 0.96 blocks per set.  For assists, Kimi Mitchell is ranked fourth with an average of 7.21 assists per set. Kerrigan Habing is ranked third in kills with an average of 3.17 kills per set and Sydney Bennett is ranked eighth with an average of 2.73 kills per set.
 
Sarah Henault is ranked second in the NE10 in service aces with an average of 0.58 aces per set and Dylan Marney is ranked third in aces per set with an average of 0.55 aces per set. Sarah Henault is ranked second in digs with an average of 4.17 digs per set. Kerrigan Habing is ranked sixth in points with a total of 297 points and Sydney Bennett is ranked seventh in points with a total of 282.5
 
Kerrigan Habing leads the team with 266 kills, Kimi Mitchell leads the team with 606 assists, Sarah Henault leads the team with 49 service aces and 350 digs, and Sydney Bennett leads the team with 80 blocks.
 
On Nov. 19, Kimi Mitchell was named the Northeast 10 Conference Rookie of the Year. Mitchell is the first NE10 Rookie of the Year in SCSU Volleyball history. In addition, Mitchell was named to the All-NE10 Second Team and the All-Rookie Team. Sydney Bennett and Kerrigan Habing were also named to the All-NE10 Second Team.
