SCSU Men's Basketball Comes Back to Defeat Felician, 83-69

Box Score RUTHERFORD, N.J. - Southern Connecticut men's basketball defeated Felician 83-69, earning a non-conference victory. The Owls improve to 3-4 on the season. 

Jahlil Bethea, who hails from East Rutherford, led the way with 22 points in his first start with the Owls, going an impressive 8-13 from the field and 4-5 from three. Justice Ellison recorded his first double-double of the season with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Simon Percy was the third starter to hit double figures, also scoring 19 and adding seven boards and two blocks. Cherif Diarra filled the stat page with two points, four rebounds, five assists, two blocks and two steals. Elijah Wood tallied five points, five rebounds, and five assists off the bench, with Makai Coleman chipping in with eight points of his own. The Owls combined to shoot exactly 50% from the field and 40% from three. 

It was a slow start for the Owls, who fell behind 10-0 to start the game. They would climb their way back, with some key buckets from Jahlil Bethea helping to cut the deficit. Bethea would end up scoring 12 in the first half in his home state. Justice Ellison had some timely baskets to keep the Golden Falcons' lead managable, but Felician would stay ahead until the 4:22 mark. Three straight baskets from Bethea would pull the Owls close, and a three ball from Elijah Wood tied the game at thirty. Felician would stabelize before heading into the break, leading 43-39. 

Southern would continue the momentum they found to end the first half to kick off the second, with a three pointer from Bethea and free throws from Malik Banks bringing them within one. Banks would knock down a jumper to give the Owls their first lead of the game with 18 minutes to go. Simon Percy, and Makai Coleman helped to extend the lead, but the Falcons fought back, jumping back ahead with just under 12 minutes left. Four straight points from Percy would put Southern back ahead, followed by five straight from Ellison. Percy, Ellison, and Bethea combined for 22 points in the final 10 minutes, pushing the Owls to a 83-69 victory. 

Southern basketball returns home on Saturday, December 20th for their final game before the new year.
