NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut women's basketball defeated Post, 86-55 in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday afternoon in the James Moore Field House. The Eagles dropped to an overall record of 1-5 and the Owls improved to an overall record of 6-3. In the victory, Coach
Kate Lynch recorded her 150th win as the Owls' head coach.
Jillian Martin recorded a career-best of 21 points, as she shot 8-for-11 from the floor, 5-for-7 from beyond the arc, totaled seven assists and grabbed four boards.
Ally Sentance returned to the Owls' lineup in impressive form as she had a career-best of 15 points, was 5-for-6 from the floor and beyond the arc. Sentance grabbed five boards and had an assist.
Taeya Steinauer had 12 points, was 2-for-4 from the three-point line and had eight rebounds.
Hope Fox and
Jada Williams both had 10 points, as Fox was 4-for-4 from the free-throw line, grabbed seven boards, had four assists and had a block. Williams was 4-for-7 from the floor and grabbed four boards.
Arianna Gerkin grabbed a team-best of nine boards and scored eight points against the Eagles. As a team. Southern recorded a season-best of 54.5% from the three-point line.
In the first quarter,
Jada Williams,
Rheyna Steinauer and
Arianna Gerkin got the scoring going for the Owls, as they went on an 8-0 run to start the game. Southern extended their lead to 12-2, with a made free-throw by
Jada Williams. The Eagles cut into the Owls' lead; however, with two made free-throws by
Hope Fox, Southern finished the first with a 18-7 advantage.
In the second quarter,
Taeya Steinauer set the Owls' tone with an impressive steal and a made fast break layup, to add to their 20-7 lead. Southern went 4-for-6 from beyond the arc, with made three-pointers from
Jillian Martin,
Ally Sentance and
Taeya Steinauer. Post put some points back on the board; nonetheless, the Owls continued to grow their lead as they headed into halftime, up 41-23 over the Eagles.
In the third quarter,
Jada Williams and
Tish Blackwood put points on the board for Southern, to extend the lead, to 44-23. After that, the Owls continued to play good defense and make shots down the stretch. Fox, Gerkin, Martin, Sentance and
Taeya Steinauer added to the Owls' total for the quarter. Southern would head into the fourth quarter, up 66-39.
In the fourth quarter, Post had the first basket of the quarter but
Jillian Martin responded with a three-pointer, assisted by
Taeya Steinauer.
Rheyna Steinauer made tough points in the paint, after grabbing key rebounds for the Owls.
Tish Blackwood and
Ally Sentance rounded out the scoring for Southern as they defeated Post, 86-55, in the final game of the 2025 calendar year.
The Owls will return to action on Sunday, January 4 in an NE10 matchup against Bentley University in Waltham, Massachusetts.
