Antonio Chandler Has 35-Point Night As SCSU Men's Basketball Defeats AIC, 88-74

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball defeated American International, 88-74, in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup at James Moore Field House. With the win, Southern improved to 13-9 overall and 9-7 in the NE10 while AIC dropped to 3-21 overall and 2-15 in conference play.

Antonio Chandler career-best 35 points with 10 rebounds for his 11th double-double of theseason. Chandler converted on 15-of-18 from the floor. Christian McClease and Sean James both had 11 points while James also had five assists and converted on 3-of-4 from three-point range. Cherif Diarra had nine points, seven rebounds and three steals in the Owls' win.



AIC opened the game with a 9-2 run over the game's first four-and-a-half minutes. Southern answered with a 22-5 run to take a 24-14 lead. Chandler was dominant, scoring nine of the Owls' 22 points while Sean James also hit on back-to-back three's in the run. Southern held AIC at arm's length as they outscored the Yellow Jackets, 19-17, over the next 7:25. AIC outscored the Owls, 6-4, over the final 1:31 to cut into the Owls' lead as Southern headed into the break with a 43-37 lead. Chandler was a beast as he converted on 8-of-8 from the floor for 17 points while also grabbing eight rebounds and leading the field with three steals in 18 minutes in the first half.

Southern opened the second half with a 12-5 edge to take a 57-42 lead with 16:09 to play. AIC got it down to 12 points with 9:12 to play, 72-60, before Southern went on a 13-4 run to blow the game open, 85-64, with 3:58 to play. AIC put together a 10-3 run to close the game, but the Owls held on for the 14-point win, 88-74.

Southern is back in action on Saturday, Feb. 15 when it travels to Worcester, Mass. to take on Assumption at 3:30 p.m.
