Week 13 D2CSC Regional and National Rankings
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut women's basketball is receiving votes in the D2CSC Division II Women's Basketball National Poll and is ranked third in the East Region Top 10 for Week Thirteen, as announced on Wednesday, Feb. 19. The Owls received a vote in the National Poll, and it is the thirteenth consecutive week that Southern Connecticut have been ranked in the East Region Top 10.
Southern Connecticut women's basketball had a 1-1 week as they defeated American International, 78-60 on Tuesday and fell to Assumption, 63-52 on Saturday.
Delaney Haines scored a team-best of 21 points, as she was 8-for-10 from the floor, was 2-for-3 from the free-throw line and had two blocks.
Katie Williamson recorded her fourth double-double of the season with 13 points and 12 rebounds. In addition, Williamson had two blocks, which moved her up to second all-time in blocks in SCSU Women's Basketball program history with 118 total blocks.
Hope Fox and
Rheyna Steinauer both totaled 15 points as Fox grabbed six boards, was 4-for-4 from the free-throw line and had a team-best of five assists. Steinauer grabbed five rebounds and was 5-for-7 from the floor.
Jillian Martin recorded 12 points as she was 2-for-2 from beyond the arc and 6-for-6 from the free-throw line against the Yellowjackets.
Against Assumption,
Delaney Haines had a team-best of 19 points, made three three-pointers, was 2-for-4 from the free-throw line, grabbed two boards and had two assists.
Renza Milner recorded a season-best of nine points, as she shot 4-for-4 from the floor and grabbed two rebounds.
Katie Williamson had eight points and four rebounds.
Jillian Martin had six points, was 2-for-2 from the free-throw line and had two assists.
Hope Fox and
Rheyna Steinauer totaled four points each. Fox led the Owls with eight rebounds, seven steals and four assists. Steinauer recorded five rebounds, had an assist and a steal against the Greyhounds.
In the NE10, Southern Connecticut leads the NE10 in offense with an average of 71 points per game. Southern also leads the NE10 with team free-throw percentage with 79% from the free-throw line. In addition, the Owls lead the NE10 in assists as they average of 16.8 assists per game.
Individually,
Delaney Haines is second in scoring with an average of 16.8 points per game, while
Katie Williamson is fifth in scoring in the NE10 with an average of 15.3 points per game.
Delaney Haines is first in the conference for three-point field goal percentage with 35.6% from beyond the arc.
Hope Fox is third in the NE10 for free-throw percentage with 85.1% and
Katie Williamson is fourth with 85% from the free-throw line.
Three Owls rank in the top 10 for assists, as
Jillian Martin,
Hope Fox and
Delaney Haines are fifth, sixth and seventh in assists. Martin and Fox average 3.6 per game, and Haines averages 3.4 assists per game. Fox is ranked third in the NE10 in steals with an average of 2.2 steals per game while Martin ranks sixth with an average of 1.9 steals per game. In blocked shots, Williamson is ranked fourth with a total of 26 blocks this season, Haines is ranked eighth with a total of 20 blocks and
Renza Milner is ranked 10
th with a total of 19 blocks.
Southern Connecticut women's basketball returns to action on Wednesday, Feb. 19 at 5:30 p.m. against NE10 and Elm-City rival, University of New Haven in West Haven, Connecticut. The Owls will play Franklin Pierce at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 22 in NE10 action in the Moore Field House.
