Belle Smith Records Top Hammer Throw in NE10 at the Wilton Wright Invitational

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Southern Connecticut Women's Outdoor Track & Field standout Belle Smith recorded the top Hammer Throw in the Northeast-10 Conference at the Wilton Wright Invitational, hosted by Southern. The Owls led the 21-team field with 21 points after Day 1 of competition.

Belle Smith recorded the top throw in the conference, throwing 50.07m (164-03) to win the Hammer Throw, also recording a new personal best. Celine Bozukluian continued her strong season with a second-place finish, throwing 48.84m (160-03). Sydney Dolbier placed sixth at 40.06m (131-05), and Valeria Torres placed 11th at 35.15m (115-04).

Gillian Penna and Ginny Mullen competed in Day 1 of the Heptathlon, with Penna finishing the day in second and Mullen in third overall. Mullen won the 100m Hurdles with a time of 15.32, and Penna placed fifth at 16.14. In the High Jump, Penna finished in third, clearing 1.55m (5-01.00), and Mullen placed sixth, jumping 1.49m (4-10.50). Penna placed second in the Shot Put, throwing 8.65m (28-04.50), while Mullen finished in seventh with a throw of 7.97m (26-01.75). In the final heptathlon event of the day, the Owls took home the top two spots. Penna won the event with a time of 26.36, and Mullen followed in second place at 26.87.
