NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut women's lacrosse put up a battle against nationally-ranked No. 7 Pace but ultimately fell short, 13-8. With the loss, Southern dropped to 8-4 overall and 3-3 in the Northeast-10 Conference while Pace improved to 10-2 overall and 6-0 in conference play.

Macy Vail led the Owls with three goals and an assist for four points. Anna Meserve scored twice for the Owls while Amelia Mansfield, Jordan Fisher and Allie Palmer also scored for the Owls. Hannah Hathway and Allie Welder picked up assists in the game. In goal, Caelen Connors made 14 saves in the game.



Southern fell behind early as the Setters used a 4-0 first quarter to build a five-goal run through the first four minutes of the second quarter and led 5-0. Anna Meserve got on the Owls on the board off a pass from Macy Vail to cut Pace's lead to 5-1. Pace answered but the Owls scored on back-to-back free position shots by Vail and Allie Palmer to cut Pace's lead to 6-3. After Pace scored with 1:38 to play, Vail picked up a rebound off a shot that was saved and popped in her second goal of the day to move within three goals, 7-4, heading into the break.
Coming out of halftime, Jordan Fisher scored on a free position shot to pull within two goals, 7-5. Pace scored again to push its lead back to three, before Southern scored back-to-back goals to pull within a goal, 8-7, with 3:45 to go in the third. Merseve scored for the second time in the game before Vail scored for the hat trick on a pass from Hannah Hathway.

In the fourth, Pace scored twice in the first four minutes to push its lead to 11-7. Amelia Mansfield then took a pass from Allie Welder and maneuvered through the Setters' defense to score and cut Southern's deficit to 11-8 with 7:29 to play. The Pace defense clamped down in the closing minutes while they scored twice to seal the 13-8 victory.

Southern is back in action at Assumption on Saturday, Apr. 12. Four of the Owls' final five games of the regular season are on the road while its final home game lands on Saturday, Apr. 19 when they host Adelphi at Jess Dow Field.
