GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – Southern Connecticut women's soccer fell to Adelphi University, 3-1 on Friday night in the first conference game of the season. The Panthers improved to an overall record of 3-1 and a NE10 record of 1-0 while the Owls dropped to an overall record of 1-1-1 and a NE10 record of 0-1.
Frida Norret scored her first career goal as an Owl in the 65th minute of the second half. Goalkeeper
Abby Aughe recorded seven saves against the Panthers.
In the first half, Southern started off quickly on offense, with three shots on goal and two corner kicks in the first 10 minutes of play. After that, Adelphi began their attack on offense, with the Owls' defense and Aughe coming up big, to keep the score even at zero. However, the Panthers' kept building their momentum as they scored two goals in the final minutes of the half. Adelphi would head into halftime with a 2-0 lead over Southern Connecticut.
In the second half, the Owls looked to put goals into the back of the net but the Panthers responded in the 59th minute with their third goal of the game. Minutes later, Southern looked to make a comeback in the 65th minute with a goal by
Frida Norret, as it was her first career goal as an Owl. Time ticked down, as the Adelphi defense held on and kept Southern from scoring for the rest of the game. When the final whistle blew, the Panthers came away with the 3-1 victory over the Owls.
Southern will travel to Philadelphia, PA for a non-conference matchup against Jefferson on Wednesday, September 17 at 2:00 p.m.
