SCSU Field Hockey Comes Back To Beat Franklin Pierce In OT, 3-2

Southern Connecticut State University  field hockey secured a thrilling 3-2 overtime win at Franklin Pierce in Rindge, N.H. Southern improved to 2-3 with their second-straight win while FPU dropped to 1-3 on the season.

Taylor Leckey netted the game-winner just 20 seconds into overtime off a pass from Isabella Folster. Leckey's goal was her second of the game, and Folster's second assist of the match. Natalia Fiato also scored the Owls' first goal of the game when Southern trailed, 2-0.



The Owls outshot the Ravens, 23-8, with Rachel Miller making three saves in the first half of the game and Lyndsay Troisi adding two saves in 30 minutes of playing time after replacing Miller.
Franklin Pierce took an early lead with Sydalia Savage's goal in the first period and extended their advantage in the second period through Reese Swanson's goal, assisted by Lilyan Zavras. However, the Owls mounted a strong comeback in the third period with Fiato scoring a crucial goal and Leckey netting another, assisted by Folster, to level the score.

The match remained tied 2-2 at the end of regulation, setting the stage for overtime. In the extra frame, Folster drove to the top of the circle and drew a pair of defenders before dropping a pass to her left. Leckey picked up the pass and blasted past the Ravens' keeper to give the Owls the come-from-behind victory.

Southern is back in action on Saturday, Sept. 20 when they travel to Colchester, Vt. to take on Saint Michael's at 11 a.m. The Owls return home on Monday, Sept. 22 to host St. Thomas Aquinas in their final non-conference matchup of the season before hosting Assumption on Saturday, Sept. 27 for its first Northeast 10 Conference tilt of the season.
