SCSU Men's Soccer Ties Southern New Hampshire, 2-2

NEW HAVEN, CONN.-- Despite taking seven shots to Southern New Hampshire University's 21, the Owls drew a 2-2 decision to Southern New Hampshire on Friday at Jess Dow Field in their first Northeast 10 conference match of the season. The Owls (0-2-2) battled through a physical match featuring seven yellow cards across both sides. 

With the draw, the Owls go to 0-2-2 and 0-0-1 in Northeast 10 conference play, while the Penmen fall to 4-0-1 and 0-0-1 in the Northeast 10 conference.



The Owls came out of the gates hot, scoring in the third minute off of a corner kick. The kick was taken by graduate student Samuel Nagy who sent a pass towards the middle of the box. With the pass headed for the far side of the goal, it was sophomore Kazuki Amegavie who tapped it in to give the Owls a 1-0 lead. 

Coming out of halftime, the Penmen offense woke up as they scored in the 47th and 55th minutes to take a 2-1 lead. . 

In the 58th minute, David Lops played a ball down the sideline from midfield to Nagy at 35 yards out from the goal. Nagy took it himself from the sideline, weaved through traffic towards the middle of the box and sent a shot past the diving goalkeeper to tie the match at 2-2. 

Despite facing 12 shots on goal, Owls goalkeeper Diego Flores stood tall. Flores saved 10 Penmen shots, including three while the game was tied to keep the Owls in it. 

SCSU is back in action on Tuesday, Sept. 23 when it hosts Pace in a Northeast 10 Conference match-up at 4 p.m. at Jess Dow Field.
