SCSU Men's Basketball Cruises To 71-57 Win Against Adelphi

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut men's basketball defeated Adelphi, 71-57, in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup at James Moore Field House. With the win, the Owls improved to 8-8 overall and 4-4 in conference play while Adelphi dropped to 13-5 overall and 5-3 in the NE10.

Justice Ellison had 16 points, five rebounds, three assists and three blocks while Malik Banks also scored 16 points – all in the second half. Simon Percy had 10 points and seven rebounds, with three assists, while Jahlil Bethea totaled 10 points in the game. Cherif Diarra also filled in the box score with nine points, 10 rebounds, three assists and a pair of steals. For his career, Diarra sits at 958 points and 954 rebounds.



Southern held the Panthers scoreless over the first 7:15 of the game, opening with a 13-0 run, before a pair of free throws got Adelphi on the board. Southern pushed its lead to 21 points at the 10:34 mark when a Simon Percy layup gave Southern a 23-2 lead. Adelphi went on to outscore the Owls, 25-12, over remainder of the half as the Owls went into the break with a 33-27 lead.

With a Cherif Diarra free throw towards the end of the first half, Southern scored the first eight points of the second half to use a 9-0 run and take a 41-27 lead in the first four minutes of the game. Late in the second half, Malik Banks scored seven of the Owls' nine points in a 9-2 run to push Southern's lead to 67-49 with four minutes to play.

Southern is back in action on Saturday, Jan. 24 when it travels to Colchester, Vt. to take on Saint Michael's in a NE10 matchup set for 3:30 p.m. Southern will return home for three-straight games at James Moore Field House against Saint Anselm on Tuesday, Jan. 27, Bentley on Saturday, Jan. 31 and Pace on Wednesday, Feb. 4.
