Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

SCSU Men's Basketball Falls to Saint Michael's, 58-55

COLCHESTER, Vt. - Southern Connecticut men's basketball came up short against Saint Michael's, losing 58-55. The Owls drop to 8-8 on the season and 4-5 in conference play.

Simon Percy led the way with 13 points, also grabbing six rebounds. Cherif Diarra recorded another double-double with 10 points and 16 rebounds, also blocking three shots. Justice Ellison added 11 points, and Malik Banks chipped in with 10.

It was a defensive battle the entire time, with both teams being held under 40% from the field. Christian McClease knocked down a three to give the Owls the first points in the ball game, but Saint Michael's would quickly jump ahead, jumping ahead by five within the first three minutes. The Owls would come back to tie it up at the 11 minute mark, with McClease and Diarra knocking down shots, and after some back-and-forth play, the Owls would regain the lead with just under seven minutes to go. Malik Banks, Simon Percy, and Justice Ellison all scored to regain the lead, which would grow as large as eight. The Purple Knights finished the half strong, however, cutting the deficit to three before heading into the locker room.

Saint Michael's would quickly tie the game at 28 in the opening minute of the second half, and would retake the lead before the Owls once again tied it up. Offense was at a premium for both sides, with both teams held under 40 until the 14 minute mark, when Saint Michael's jumped ahead 40-34. They would hold the lead for almost six minutes, but the Owls's defense was able to hold the deficit to single digits, eventually climbing all the way back to retake the lead on some free throws from Percy. The two teams would again go back and forth, but eventually, the Purple Knights would extend the lead to six with under two minutes to go. The Owls attempted a last minute comeback, with Malik Banks knocking down a huge three-pointer, but Saint Michael's would hold on to win, 58-55.

The Owls are back at home on Tuesday, January 27th, when they take on Saint Anselm at 7:30 p.m.
