SCSU Field Hockey Falls To Benltey

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Southern Connecticut State University field hockey dropped a 2-0 decision to Bentley in Northeast 10 action at Jess Dow Field, despite a standout performance in goal from Lyndsay Troisi.

Southern fell to 5-8 overall and 1-3 in the NE10. Bentley improved to 5-7 overall and 3-1 in conference play. Troisi finished with a season-best 16 saves, the second-most of her career following her 17-save performance against Assumption on Sept. 25, 2025. The senior faced 19 shots on goal and kept the Owls within one for more than 46 minutes.

Bentley opened the scoring 9:01 into the first quarter. That 1-0 lead held through halftime as Troisi made eight saves in the first half — three in the first quarter and five in the second. She added four more stops in the third quarter and five in the fourth.

Southern's defense battled through eight Bentley penalty corners, including five in the fourth quarter. Kyla Hart-Perron came up with a defensive save on a corner chance at the 50:27 mark to keep it a one-goal game.

Offensively, Southern was limited to one shot on goal. Kaiya Mercier put the Owls' lone attempt on frame in the third quarter at 41:13, but Bentley's goalkeeper made the save to preserve the shutout. Southern finished with one shot and no penalty corners, while Bentley totaled 24 shots and 19 on goal.

The Owls continued to fight in the final period despite heavy pressure. Bentley generated three consecutive corners in a 14-second span early in the fourth — at 46:59, 47:08 and 47:13 — but Troisi stopped both shots on goal during the sequence.

Bentley doubled its lead late at 55:28 off a penalty corner with 4:32 remaining.

For Southern, Mercier led with one shot on goal. Hart-Perron added the defensive save, and the back line of Sofia Frassinelli, Grace Gile and Lindsey Onofrio worked to limit Bentley in transition.

Despite the final margin, Southern held Bentley to two goals on 19 shots on goal. Troisi made multiple point-blank stops during corner sequences to give the Owls a chance late.

Southern is back in action on Sunday, Oct. 18 when it hosts St. Michael's at 12 p.m. Prior to the start of the game, the Owls will host Senior Day to recognize Kyla Hart-Perron, Ruby Webb, Bridget Andros, Kate Salvador, Isabella Taylor, Rachel Miller and Julia McHenry.
