SCSU Women's Track & Field Announces Captains for 2025-2026 Season

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Southern Connecticut Women's Track & Field Head Coach Melissa Stoll-Funaro has announced the team captains for the 2025-2026 Indoor and Outdoor seasons. Abigail Bajorek, Celine Bozukluian, Hannah Caiola, Courtney Henchcliffe, Ella Maclean, and Avery Winters were all named captain.

Celine Bozukluian leads the way as the only returning captain from the 2024-2025 season. She has already recorded multiple personal records in the Weight Throw in her third season as captain, and currently ranks fourth in the conference in the event. She is coming off a season where she earned All-Region honors for the Hammer Throw and was twice named to the Northeast 10's Faces in the Crowd list. She took home bronze in the Hammer Throw at last season's conference championships.

Abigail Bajorek will look to bring some momentum from the fall into the indoor season after helping SCSU Women's Cross Country to the best season in program history. In the Fall, she was an All-NE10 Second Team selection and earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, helping the team to qualify and record their best finish at the NCAA National Championships. On the track, she has ran the third-fastest 800m and Mile in the NE10, and will look to pick up some more medals after taking home two golds and a silver in the 4x800 and DMR last year.

Two-time All-American Hannah Caiola has continued her dominance into the 2025-26 season, holding the fastest time in the 500m in all of Division II this season. She also holds the fourth-fastest 400m in DII this season and the fifth-fastest 200m. She set the meet record in the 400m at the Art Kadish Elm City Challenge, and has been named NE10 Runner of the Week and landed on the NE10's Faces in the Crowd. Last Year, she was named NE10 Indoor and Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year, NE10 Most Outstanding Track Athlete, NCAA East Region Athlete of the Year, and set the NCAA DII record in the 300m.

Courtney Henchcliffe has also dominated the track after having arguably the greatest individual cross country season in program history. In the fall, she took home individual championships at both the NE10 and NCAA East Region Championships, becoming the first Owl to win the latter. She helped SCSU Women's Cross Country to their best finish ever at the NCAA DII National Championships, finishing 64th. She was named NE10 Runner of the Year, East Region Runner of the Year, USTFCCCA All-Academic, Academic All-Conference, and won the NE10's Scholar-Athlete Sport Excellence Award. This indoor season, she broke the program record in the 3000m with a time of 9:46.37. The previous record was set 37 years ago by Kathy Milton in 1989. She has also taken home NE10 Runner of the Week honors.

Ella Maclean is one of the most decorated athletes in program history. Now in her fifth year with the team, she has totaled 30 medals across indoor and outdoor NE10 and New England Championships, including 19 golds. She holds the program record in the 55m and ranks in the top-10 times in program history in eight separate events. She was named NE10 Rookie of the Year for the Indoor and Outdoor season in 2022, and will be returning to competition for the Owls during the outdoor season. She won gold in every championship race she ran in her last outdoor season.

Avery Winters has been incredibly successful running the 200m, 300m, and 400m
for the Owls. This season, she ranks second in the conference in the 300m and the 400m, and is a part of the Owls' 4x400m Relay team that ranks ninth in all of Division II. She has captured 13 medals in her career at NE10 and New England Championships.

The Owls will look to defend their back-to-back NE10 titles next week at the 2026 NE10 Indoor Track & Field Championships on Thursday, February 19th and Friday, February 20th.
