SCSU Baseball Falls to Post, 11-7

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Southern Connecticut Baseball lost to Post, 11-7, in Day 2 of the Cal Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach. The Owls drop to 2-4 on the season. 

Devin Pelletier led the way offensively, going 2-4 with two doubles, two runs scored, an RBI and a walk. Matt Scalia continued his impressive rookie season, also going 2-4 with two runs scored. Spencer Chard, Brennan Staubley, and Jake Chacho each recorded doubles. 

Jace Alvino recorded his second start of the year, allowing three runs (all earned) over five innings of work and striking out seven batters. 

Post opened up the scoring in the second inning, driving in the first run of the game with an RBI double. Southern answered in the third when Chard drove in Pelletier and Scalia with a double of his own. Auggie Albert added another in the fourth with an RBI groundout, giving the Owls a 3-1 lead. 

Post would claw their way back, tacking on one run in the fourth and another in the fifth to tie the game at three. The Eagles would blow the game open in the sixth, scoring eight runs (all unearned) off of Harry Roy, who entered in relief of Alvino, and Owen Sotero, who relieved Roy to record the final out of the inning. 

Southern, down 11-3, would fight back, with Pelletier, Chard, and Staubley all driving in runs in the top of the seventh, but were unable to complete the comeback. Jaylen Cruz kept the Eagles off the board for the final two innings, striking out two. 

The Owls will close out the Cal Ripken Experience against Wilmington on Sunday, February 22nd.
