NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior Hannah Olson (Torrington, Conn.) of the women’s swimming and diving team and junior Stephen Sasso (Orange, Conn.) of the men’s soccer team have been named as the Connecticut Army National Guard/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Week.
Olson finished first in the 200 yard backstroke (2:17.65) and 500 yard freestyle (5:26.47) and also took second in the 200 freestyle (2:03.50) in the Owls’ wins over Merrimack and Saint Rose on Friday.
For the second time this fall, the Northeast-10 Conference named Sasso its men's soccer Goalkeeper of the Week. Last week, Sasso recorded two shutouts against New Haven (six saves) and Saint Michael's (eight saves) for the Owls. The junior has nine shutouts on the season, including three straight.
The Connecticut Army National Guard is serving as the title sponsor of Southern Connecticut State University’s ‘Athlete of the Week’ recognition program. Initiated in September, 2007, the ‘Athlete of the Week’ program recognizes one female and one male student-athlete each week for demonstrated excellence on the playing field.
