NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Junior Michelle Grecni (Danbury, Conn.) of the women's indoor track and field team and junior Michael Lee (New London, Conn.) of the men's indoor track and field team have been named as the Connecticut Army National Guard/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Week.
Grecni had an impressive start to the 2013-14 season by winning the pole vault at both of the Owls' competitions over the weekend. On Friday, she leaped 3.85 meters at the Elm City Challenge to claim the event. The following day, at the Yale Opener on Saturday, she cleared 3.75 meters. She currently has the top mark in Division II this year and has provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships.
Lee posted a pair of NCAA provisional qualifying marks as he won both the long jump and the triple jump at the Elm City Challenge. He registered a mark of 7.01 meters in the long jump and 14.79 meters in the triple jump at the event.
The Connecticut Army National Guard is serving as the title sponsor of Southern Connecticut State University's 'Athlete of the Week' recognition program. Initiated in September, 2007, the 'Athlete of the Week' program recognizes one female and one male student-athlete each week for demonstrated excellence on the playing field.
