NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior Jasmine Bien-Aime (Cambridge, Mass.) of the women’s indoor track and field team and senior Nick Lebron (Newington, Conn.) of the men’s indoor track and field team have been named the Connecticut Army National Guard/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Week.
Bien-Aime earned All-New England honors in three separate events (60 meters, 200 meters and 4x400 relay) and helped SCSU claim a sixth place team finish at the competition. In the process, she also set a new school record in the 200 meters. Bien-Aime placed third as a part of the 4x400 relay, was fourth in the 200 meters and fifth in the 60 meters.
Lebron captured the New England championship in the heptathlon with a Boston University facility record in the competition. He totaled 5,528 points, which was a New England record and currently ranks tops in Division II this year. Lebron also ran a leg of the 4x400 relay that was the New England runner-up. Thanks in part to Lebron’s efforts, the Owls won the New England championship.
The Connecticut Army National Guard is serving as the title sponsor of Southern Connecticut State University’s ‘Athlete of the Week’ recognition program. Initiated in September, 2007, the ‘Athlete of the Week’ program recognizes one female and one male student-athlete each week for demonstrated excellence on the playing field.
