NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Seniors Michelle Grecni (Danbury, Conn.) of the women’s indoor track and field team and Tresley Dupont (Tiverton, R.I.) of the men’s indoor track and field team have been named as the Connecticut Army National Guard/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Week.
Grecni cleared a height of 3.80 meters in the pole vault this past weekend at the Yale Season Opener, a mark that currently puts her tops among all Division II competitors in that event. Grecni captured first place amongst the field at Yale with her performance, which was also a NCAA provisional qualifying mark.
Dupont opened the campaign with a NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the weight throw at the Yale Season Opener. He came through with a toss of 17.74 meters to capture first place at the competition.
The Connecticut Army National Guard is serving as the title sponsor of Southern Connecticut State University’s ‘Athlete of the Week’ recognition program. Initiated in September, 2007, the ‘Athlete of the Week’ program recognizes one female and one male student-athlete each week for demonstrated excellence on the playing field.
