NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Junior Kristen Frost (Madison, Conn.) of the women’s swimming and diving team and senior Sutton Underwood (Norwalk, Conn.) of the men’s track and field team have been named as the Comcast/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Month for January.

Frost continued her assault on the NCAA record books during the month of January. She broke her own Division II record in the 1,000 yard freestyle with a time of 9:49.09 against Saint Rose and Queens on Jan. 30. Frost has now set or reset the NCAA record in that event on three occasions in the past two seasons.

However, equally as impressive was the fact that her 12 individual wins came in nine different events.

Frost gathered four victories for the Owls against West Chester, taking home the 200 and 400 individual medley, as well as the 500 and 1,650 freestyle. She also won the 200 and 500 freestyle and the 200 backstroke against Marist and the 100 backstroke, 100 freestyle and 200 backstroke against Connecticut College.

Frost was named the ECAC and Northeast-10 Conference Athlete of the Week on Jan. 20-21.

Underwood, a pole vaulter, enjoyed an outstanding month for the Owls. He delivered a leap of 5.10 meters at the Albany Great Dane Classic on Jan. 23, a NCAA provisional qualifying mark that was the second-best in program history.

For his efforts, he was named the Northeast-10 and ECAC Male Field Athlete of the Week.

Earlier in the month, he won the pole vault at the University of Rhode Island Sorlein Invitational with a leap of 4.95 meters. He opened the month with a second place finish in his event at the Yale Classic.
