NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Sophomore Justine Basley (Danielson, Conn.) of the gymnastics team and senior Sutton Underwood (Norwalk, Conn.) of the men’s track and field team have been named as the Comcast/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Month for March.

Basley put forth a series of tremendous individual efforts to help the Owls put a strong finish on a 17-win regular season. She set new SCSU records on the bars and All-Around, while also helping the team set a new SCSU record on the vault.

Basley posted a 9.8 on the bars at the ECAC Championships. The week prior, she posted a 38.525 in the All-Around in a meet against William and Mary, Towson, Rutgers and Bridgeport. Her score of 9.625 on the vault that day also helped the team register a new all-time high of 47.475.

Underwood continued his dominance in the pole vault during the month of March. Competing at the NCAA Division II Championships, he finished seventh overall after a leap of 16 feet, 6.75 inches.

He became the first SCSU pole vaulter to earn All-America honors in that event since 1995. For his efforts, he was named the Northeast-10 Conference Field Athlete of the Week.
