NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Junior Alyssa Gage (Beverly Hills, Fla.) of the volleyball team and freshman Gavin Woodward (New Hartford, Conn.) of the men’s cross country team have been named as the Chick-fil-A of North Haven/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Week.
Gage helped the Owls register a 3-1 mark last week, while posting 50 kills and an incredible .500 hitting percentage. She registered a career-high 17 kills in a five-set loss to New Haven and posted nine and 11 kills without an error, respectively, in wins over Concordia and Wilmington. Gage also had 13 kills in a thrilling five-set win over New York Tech.
Woodward placed 24th overall out of 283 competitors as the Owls won the “White Division” title as a team at the prestigious Paul Short Invitational. He completed the 8K course in a time of 26:37.
Chick-fil-A of North Haven, located at 560 Universal Drive, is serving as the title sponsor of Southern Connecticut State University’s ‘Athlete of the Week’ recognition program. Initiated in September, 2007, the ‘Athlete of the Week’ program recognizes one female and one male student-athlete each week for demonstrated excellence on the playing field.
