NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Sophomore Gabriela Vazquez (Meriden, Conn.) of the volleyball team and junior Eli Parks (Bristol, Conn.) of the football team have been named as the Chick-fil-A of North Haven/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Week.
Vazquez registered three double-doubles in the Owls' three matches last week, boosting her season total to 13 in the process. She posted 13 kills and 13 digs in a key regional win over Molloy. Over the weekend, Vazquez notched a team-high 10 kills and 18 digs at Stonehill and followed with a team-high 14 kills and 10 digs at Southern New Hampshire.
Parks recorded 149 yards on 21 carries, and also found the end zone twice, in Southern’s 45-42 win at Bentley on Saturday. His individual efforts were part of a team performance in which the Owls notched 454 yards on the ground as a team. This was Parks’ third game this year with at least 100 rushing yards.
Chick-fil-A of North Haven, located at 560 Universal Drive, is serving as the title sponsor of Southern Connecticut State University’s ‘Athlete of the Week’ recognition program. Initiated in September, 2007, the ‘Athlete of the Week’ program recognizes one female and one male student-athlete each week for demonstrated excellence on the playing field.
