NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior Destiney Coward (East Haven, Conn.) of the women’s indoor track and field team and junior Isaiah McLeod (Cambridge, Mass.) of the men’s basketball team have been named as the Chick-fil-A of North Haven/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Week.
Coward captured first place in the weight throw at the prestigious Dartmouth Relays over the weekend. Coward's throw of 21.29 meters extended her own school record in that event and is the top mark in Division II this year. It's also the third-best among competitors among all three divisions, behind only Annette Echikunwoke of Cincinnati and Sade Olatoye of Ohio State.
McLeod averaged 18.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 3.0 steals per game in a 1-1 week for the Owls. He started the week with a 13 point effort against Merrimack and followed that up with 23 points, eight rebounds, six assists and four steals in a win over Southern New Hampshire.
Chick-fil-A of North Haven, located at 560 Universal Drive, is serving as the title sponsor of Southern Connecticut State University's 'Athlete of the Week' recognition program. Initiated in September, 2007, the 'Athlete of the Week' program recognizes one female and one male student-athlete each week for demonstrated excellence on the playing field.
