NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior Kathleen Aberger (Plano, Texas) of the gymnastics team and junior Turner Kelly (Amityville, N.Y.) of the men’s indoor track and field team have been named as the Chick-fil-A of North Haven/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Week.

Aberger posted two top-six and three top-14 finishes for the Owls to help SCSU achieve a season-high score in its quad-meet against Illinois, Yale and Rutgers over the weekend. Aberger placed third overall on the floor exercise with a score of 9.75. She was also Southern's top finisher on the beam, as she scored 9.8 and tied for sixth place, and on the bars, as she was 14th with a 9.5. Her floor exercise score was a new personal-best, and her beam scored tied a personal-best.

Kelly captured first place in the shot put for the Owls with a toss of 16.55 meters at the St. Thomas Aquinas Challenge on Friday. His throw was also a NCAA provisional qualifying effort and a personal-best. He also finished third in the weight throw with a toss of 16.07 meters.

Chick-fil-A of North Haven, located at 560 Universal Drive, is serving as the title sponsor of Southern Connecticut State University’s ‘Athlete of the Week’ recognition program. Initiated in September, 2007, the ‘Athlete of the Week’ program recognizes one female and one male student-athlete each week for demonstrated excellence on the playing field.
