RINDGE, N.H. – The Southern Connecticut State University women's soccer team entered Saturday's match with No. 18 Franklin Pierce University needing a win and help to qualify for the Northeast-10 tournament. The Owls hung within a goal of the nationally ranked Ravens for 72 minutes but were ultimately overpowered as Franklin Pierce took the match by a score of 5-2.
The Owls now stand at 7-8-2 overall and 4-8-1 in the Northeast-10. Franklin Pierce ran its record to 12-1-4 overall and 9-1-4 in the conference play.
The Ravens opened the scoring in the 8th minute, as Gabriela Demoner converted a penalty kick for her 20th goal of the season.
Demoner struck again in at 38:08 as she received a long pass from Rachel Smith and buried it in the upper left corner of the net from 18 yards out.
The Owls pulled to within a goal shortly after halftime at 49:28 as
Lindsay Stanton intercepted a pass from Ravens' goalkeeper Brittany Ester and put the ball past her for his second goal of the season.
Franklin Pierce reclaimed a two goal advantage less than four minutes later. This time Demoner tallied the assist, as Rachel Smith headed a free kick from the Northeast-10's leading scorer past Owls goalkeeper

The Owls struck for the final time in the match as
Ashley Knight took a ball all alone and drove it home for an unassisted tally, her third of the season.
The 3-2 deficit was as close as the Owls would come to the Ravens. Franklin Pierce notched two more insurance goals on the afternoon, including Demoner's third of the match and 22nd on the season, to round out the final score a 5-2 in favor of the Ravens.
The Owls will wrap up the 2007 season on Tuesday, Oct. 20 as they challenge the Dolphins of Le Moyne College. The match begins at 3 p.m. from Syracuse, N.Y.
