WORCESTER, Mass. – The Southern Connecticut State University women's soccer team has felt right at home in its road games this season. The Owls ran their record away from Jess Dow Field to 6-2-1 on Tuesday night in Worcester, Mass. with a 2-1 victory over Assumption College.
The Owls now stand at 7-5-2 overall with a 4-5-1 record in the Northeast-10 Conference. Assumption College fell to 3-10-1 overall and 2-9-0 in the conference.
The match was a scoreless stalemate until the 60th minute, when sophomore
Erin Conrod (Cheshire, Conn.) intercepted an attempted clear pass and caught Greyhounds goalkeeper Lauren Matysiak out of position for her fifth goal of the season.
The Owls picked up a serendipitous insurance tally, when a loose ball bounced off of a Greyhound defender and into the back of the net. The Assumption own goal ran the score to 2-0 in favor of Southern Connecticut.
Freshman goalkeeper
Katie DiDio (Vernon, Conn.) and the Owls defense made the 2-0 tally stand up. The defense allowed only five shots on goal for the match, none of which were allowed into the net by Didio. Didio's five saves were enough to lock up her fourth shutout of the season; her third in the Owls' last five matches.
The Owls are back on the pitch on Saturday, October 13, coming home to New Haven to challenge Bryant University in Northeast-10 match. The action begins at 4 p.m. from Jess Dow Field.
