SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Senior forward
Larry Yeboah (Worcester, Mass.) tallied the game-winning goal in the 33rd minute as the Southern Connecticut State University men's soccer team scored three times in the first half to defeat St. Rose 3-1 in Northeast-10 Conference play on Wednesday night. The win is the second in as many road conference games for SCSU, which improves to 3-1-2 (2-0-2 NE-10). St. Rose falls to 0-5-1 (0-1-2 NE-10) with the loss.
Junior defender
Ancil Farrier (Los Bajos, Trinidad) opened the scoring for the Owls with his team-leading third goal of the season on a penalty kick in the 25th minute.
Just over eight minutes later, Yeboah notched the eventual game-winner. The unassisted goal came from about 10 yards out on the right side after the St. Rose defense failed to clear the ball from their own box. The goal was Yeboah's second of the season.
Junior midfielder
Djordje Jankovic (Sabac, Serbia) struck for a goal in transition in the 43rd minute to give SCSU a 3-0 lead heading into the halftime break. Jankovic took a feed from senior forward
Colin Jackson (Hartford, Conn.) on the left side and struck the shot from about 15 yards out to beat St. Rose goalkeeper Patrick Whalen.
St. Rose scored the only goal of the second half when Todd Driscoll scored his team-leading fifth goal of the year in the 84th minute. Driscoll corralled a lofted pass from Mark Rabideau and beat SCSU senior goalkeeper
Brendan Lawless (Orleans, Mass.) from about 12 yards out.
Lawless finished with one save to earn the victory for SCSU. Whalen made eight saves in defeat for St. Rose. SCSU outshot St. Rose 17-6 on the evening.
The Owls return to action on Saturday, September 15 when they host No. 22 nationally ranked Massachusetts-Lowell in a Northeast-10 Conference game. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Jess Dow Field in New Haven, Conn.
