NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior goalkeeper Brendan Lawless (Orleans, Mass.) made four saves to record a clean sheet in his first action of the season as the Southern Connecticut State University Men's Soccer team played to a 0-0 draw against St. Michael's in Northeast-10 Conference play on Saturday afternoon at Jess Dow Field. With the tie, SCSU's record goes to 2-1-2 (1-0-2 NE-10) while St. Michael's moves to 5-0-1 (1-0-1 NE-10).

SCSU would have the best chance to score in the first half. About midway through the period, sophomore midfielder Michael Dibartolomeo (Wallingford, Conn.) lifted a free kick from about 30 yards out on the right side. The kick found the head of junior defender Ancil Farrier (Los Bajos, Trinidad) 10 yards in front of the goal. However, Farrier's header rang off the right post and the score remained 0-0 into the halftime break.

SCSU statistically dominated the second half and both overtime periods, posting an 18-7 shots advantage over the game's final 65 minutes. Just after halftime, in the 49th minute, junior forward Djordje Jankovic (Sabac, Serbia) lined a free kick towards the net from 22 yards out, but St. Michael's goalkeeper Tim Williamson was able to haul it in for the save.

The Owls would have the best opportunity of the two overtime periods as well. In the 103rd minute, Dibartolomeo took a feed from Farrier at the top of the 18-yard box. Dibartolomeo took a shot that was ticketed for the top portion of the net, but Williamson jumped up and brought it down before it could get behind him.

Williamson finished with nine saves to Lawless' four as both goalkeepers earned shutouts on the afternoon. SCSU held a 21-12 shots advantage on the afternoon.

The Owls return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 12 when they travel to visit St. Rose in a Northeast-10 Conference game. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. at Union College in Schenectady, N.Y.
