NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University women's soccer team struck first on Saturday night, but could not make that goal stand up to late surge by Northeast-10 rival Bentley College and lost 2-1.
The Owls fell to 2-2-1 (0-2 in the Northeast-10), while Bentley improved to 4-1-0.
Sophomore
Katrina Cook (Westtown, N.Y.) found the net for the second consecutive game, sending a pass from sophomore #Brittany Desmarais" (Tolland, Conn.) past a diving keeper to put the Owls ahead 1-0 at 27:01.
The one goal lead held up until late in the second half, when Cheryl Boyd knotted the game at 1-1 off of an assist from Laura Siever at 78:24.
Bentley struck with the deciding goal with less than 90 seconds remaining in regulation. Owls' freshman goalkeeper
Katie DiDio (Vernon, Conn.) made a diving attempt to thwart a Falcons' scoring opportunity, but could not gain possession of the ball. The loose ball eventually found its way to the foot of Siever, who buried it into the vacated cage.
Didio finished with six saves for the Owls.
The Owls will be back in action on Tuesday, Sept. 11, as they travel to Queens College for a non-conference match.
