Men’s Swimming Falls To The College of New Jersey

Ryan Cutler won an event, however the Owls fell to the College of New Jersey on Sunday evening.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University men's swimming team dropped their home opener to the College of New Jersey on Sunday evening in Hutchinson Natatorium. The final score of the competition was 162-120.

Sophomore Aaron Rocheleau (Newington, Conn.) won two more races for the Owls in the losing effort. He finished the 200 Yard Backstroke with a time of 1:55.83 and won the 200 Yard IM finishing the race with a time of 1:58.17. Jeremy Frey (Pipersville, Pa.) and Austin Mizzell (Bristol, Conn.) took second and third in the event for the Owls. In addition, Rocheleau, Michael Cozzi (East Hampton, Conn.) and Frey took second, third and fourth in the 200 Yard Freestyle event.

Benjamin Prue (Alpharetta, Ga.) performed well throughout the day for Southern as well. In the 100 Yard Backstroke he took the gold with a final time of 53.45 and placed second in the 100 and 200 Yard Butterfly events for SCSU.

Miguel Nesrala (Santo Domingo, D.R.), Matthew Sorena (Brookfield, Conn.), Thomas Hardy (East Massapequa, N.Y.) and Cozzi combined for a time of 3:18.49 in the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay event, good enough for first place.

Ryan Cutler (Mystic, Conn.) won the 1-meter diving event posting a score of 204.00 and took home second in the 3-meter diving event, recording a final score of 195.50.

Southern will enjoy a week off and return to action for the USMMA Invite in Kings Point, N.Y. The event will kickoff at 11 a.m. on Nov. 22.
