Dan Vitagliano (New Haven, Conn.) won the 50- and 500-yard freestyle, senior
Shane Pelton (Malvern, Pa.) won the 100-yard freestyle and 200-yard individual medley and senior
Jason Flores (New Haven, Conn.) swept the diving events on Friday evening as the Southern Connecticut State University men's swimming and diving team defeated St. Rose, 69-42, and Queens, 100-9, in a meet hosted by Queens. In all, the Owls won nine events on the day.
Vitagliano picked up his first victory of the day in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.07 seconds. He would later add a win in the 500-yard freestyle when he swam a time of 4:51.26. Freshman
Aaron Rocheleau (Newington, Conn.) finished second behind Vitagliano in the 500-yard event with a time of 4:54.76. Earlier in the day, Rocheleau had picked up a win of his own when he finished the 1000-yard freestyle in 10:03.63.
In between Vitagliano's two wins, Pelton picked up his duo of victories. Pelton first won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:02.44 and followed that up with a time of 50.16 seconds to win the 100-yard freestyle.
Junior
Ben Prue (Alpharetta, Ga.) also picked up a win for the Owls on Friday, as he finished first in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:50.38.
SCSU picked up a relay win at the meet as well. Vitagliano, junior
Kevin Rogers (Milford, Conn.), senior
Zach Gauvin (Mattapoisett, Mass.) and sophomore
Max Barrett (Newtown, Conn.) teamed up to swim a first-place time of 1:32.13 in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
Flores led the SCSU divers on the day, as he won both of the meet's diving events. He posted a score of 147.65 points to take first in three-meter diving and bettered that with 254.45 points to post the victory in one-meter diving. Junior
Ryan Cutler (Mystic, Conn.) finished second in both events with scores of 109.85 and 118.90, respectively.
The Owls return to action on March 22-24 when they travel to Piscataway, N.J. for the Metropolitan Conference Championships.
