OWLS TO FACE TWO NE-10 OPPONENTS THIS WEEK
The women's soccer team faced two nationally ranked opponents last week, and fell just short in both contests, dropping their overall record to (3-3). The Owls will look bounce back and take advantage of two conference matches this coming week. First, SCSU will take on the Dolphins from Le Moyne College on Sept. 23 in a crucial game at Jess Dow Field. Game time is set for 7 p.m. Later in the week, the Owls travel to Waltham, Mass. to challenge Bentley College on Sept. 27. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
STRONG EFFORTS LAST WEEK
On Weds. SCSU traveled to Brookville, N.Y. to face the sixth ranked team in the nation, and nearly pulled off the upset. The Owls lost by the final score of 2-1. The week did not get any easier for the women's soccer team either. On Sat. the Ravens from Franklin Pierce came to New Haven on CJSA night at Jess Dow Field. SCSU battled the No. 17 team in the nation to a 3-1 loss.
FRESHMAN CONTRIBUTES AGAIN
Freshman mid-fielder,
Jenna Mallico (Milford, Conn.), continues to provide offense for the Owls. Mallico netted her third goal of the season against Franklin Pierce on Saturday, giving her a team-leading eight total points on the year.
MOVING FORWARD IN 2007
The Southern Connecticut State University women's soccer team improved on its 2006 mark by two victories in 2007. The Owls were ranked as high as No. 10 in the region during the course of the campaign.
A GOOD KNIGHT FOR THE OWLS
Junior
Ashley Knight earned All-New England honors from two organizations and was also selected All-Northeast-10 for the second straight year by virtue of her play during the 2007 campaign.
BACK IN THE SWING OF THINGS
A year after being sidelined for all but three matches,
Gina Della Rose returned to the Owls' lineup and appeared in 17 matches in 2007. She led the team with four assists and finished with six points on the year.
LEADING THE WAY
Junior
Erin Conrod set the scoring pace for the Owls with five goals last season. Conrod also led in overall points with 10. Three of her five goals were game-winners.
RIGHT BEHIND HER
Juniors
Danielle MacMurray and
Katrina Cook tied for second in scoring behind Conrod, as each netted four goals and eight total points on the season.
A STANDOUT STOPPER
Sophomore goalkeeper
Katie DiDio allowed one goal or less in seven of her last 10 outings in 2007. She accumulated four shutouts on the season, as well as combining with senior
Alicia Purzycki to record a team shutout.
ON DECK
Next week, the Owls will welcome Assumption College to Jess Dow Field on Oct. 1. Kickoff for the conference match is set for 7 p.m.
