OWLS LOOK TO MAKE NE-10 CHARGE
With their two wins last week, the women's soccer team moved up to sixth place in the Northeast-10 Conference standings. This week, on Oct. 1 the Owls will face Assumption College in a conference match at Jess Dow Field. The time of the game is set for 7 p.m. Later in the week, on Oct. 4 SCSU will face the NE-10 first place Penmen from Southern New Hampshire University. This conference match will be played at Jess Dow Field at 7 p.m.
BIG CONFERENCE WINS FOR THE OWLS
SCSU defeated two conference opponents in last week's contests improving its overall record to 5-3, 3-2 in Northeast-10 play. On Wednesday night, the Owls overcame Le Moyne College, 2-1 in overtime at Jess Dow Field. Freshmen
Jenna Mallico tallied the game-winner in the first overtime for the victory. On Saturday afternoon, SCSU traveled to Waltham, Mass. to face Bentley College in another NE-10 showdown. In very difficult playing conditions, the team came out on top, 3-0 for their fifth win of the season.
A BALANCED OFFENSIVE ATTACK
Eight different members of the team have scored at least one goal thus far this season. Mallico leads the team with five goals and junior
Gina Della Rose is right behind her with three goals on the year.
MOVING FORWARD IN 2007
The Southern Connecticut State University women's soccer team improved on its 2006 mark by two victories in 2007. The Owls were ranked as high as No. 10 in the region during the course of the campaign.
A GOOD KNIGHT FOR THE OWLS
Junior
Ashley Knight earned All-New England honors from two organizations and was also selected All-Northeast-10 for the second straight year by virtue of her play during the 2007 campaign.
BACK IN THE SWING OF THINGS
A year after being sidelined for all but three matches,
Gina Della Rose returned to the Owls' lineup and appeared in 17 matches in 2007. She led the team with four assists and finished with six points on the year.
LEADING THE WAY
Junior
Erin Conrod set the scoring pace for the Owls with five goals last season. Conrod also led in overall points with 10. Three of her five goals were game-winners.
RIGHT BEHIND HER
Juniors
Danielle MacMurray and
Katrina Cook tied for second in scoring behind Conrod, as each netted four goals and eight total points on the season.
A STANDOUT STOPPER
Sophomore goalkeeper
Katie DiDio allowed one goal or less in seven of her last 10 outings in 2007. She accumulated four shutouts on the season, as well as combining with senior
Alicia Purzycki to record a team shutout.
ON DECK
The Owls will return to action on Oct. 7 to face Pace University at Jess Dow Field. Kickoff for this conference match is set for 7 p.m.
