Women’s Soccer Nears Upset Bid, Falls Short 2-1 At No. 14 Franklin Pierce

Ashley Knight scored a goal against Franklin Pierce on Saturday.
RINDGE, N.H. – Senior Ashley Knight (Rockland, Mass.) tallied her second goal of the season, however the Southern Connecticut State University women's soccer team dropped a Northeast-10 Conference match to No. 14 Franklin Pierce on Saturday afternoon. The final score of 2-1 handed the Owls their second loss in a row, dropping them to 6-5, 3-5 in the league.

Angelika Johansson accounted for both of Franklin Pierce's goals, as she scored them within a span of 1:03 in the first half. The Ravens controlled the advantage heading into the locker rooms at halftime.

However, Southern would not go down without a fight. The Owls got on the scoreboard at the 52:25 mark in the second half. Knight scored with a chip in off a pass from Katrina Cook (Westtown, N.Y.), cutting the deficit in half.

Unfortunately SCSU could not find the equalizer. Junior Katie DiDio (Vernon, Conn.) made four saves in the losing effort for the Owls.

The Owls return to action on Oct. 6 when the team travels to Pace University. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. in Briarcliff, N.Y.
