Men’s Soccer Outlasts Cross-Town Rival New Haven, 4-3

Sophomore Germain Delage collected his first goal of the season against New Haven on Tuesday afternoon.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Four different players found the back of the net on Tuesday afternoon, as the Southern Connecticut State University men's soccer team defeated New Haven, 4-3 at Kayo Field. The Owls scored the game's first three goals and held off a late offensive burst from the Chargers. With the win, Southern improved to 5-2-1, 2-1-1 in Northeast-10 competition, while New Haven dropped to 1-6, 0-6 in the league.

Usually assisting others, freshman Seth Ragaini (Seymour, Conn.) gave the Owls an early lead with his second goal of the season. Ragaini's mark in the 15th minute of action was the only goal in the first half of play. The Owls controlled 7-3 advantage in shots and headed into the locker room with a 1-0 lead. 

Southern's offense charged out of the gate with two quick second half goals. Cedric Panzu (Mons-En-Baroeul, France) grabbed the Owls' second goal just six minutes into the period. His second notch of the season came off a pass from Jason Villagomez (Stamford, Conn.) for a 2-0 lead.

A mere four minutes later, sophomore Germain Delage (Paris, France) added his first goal of the 2009 campaign. The Owls now controlled a commanding 3-0 advantage.

The Chargers cut into their deficit, responding with two goals of their own. Anthony Ramano and Oren Corridon notched goal's in the 56th and 65th minutes, reducing SCSU's lead to just one.

Soon after, freshman Yoni Feldman (Ramat-Gan, Israel) completed the scoring for the Owls with his second goal in as many games. Feldman's third goal this fall proved to be the game-winner as Southern's defense held on for a 4-3 victory.

Sophomore Andrew Esposito (East Haven, Conn.) collected four saves in his fourth win of the year, while Jonathon Creem made five stops for the hosting Chargers.

The Owls are back in action on Sept. 26 when they play host to Stonehill at Jess Dow Field. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
