ALBANY, N.Y. – Sophomore captain Paul Templeton (Saltcoats, Scotland) notched his fifth and sixth goals of the season, as the Southern Connecticut State University men's soccer team defeated Saint Rose, 4-1 in Albany, N.Y. on Wednesday evening. Sophomore Cedric Panzu (Mons-En-Baroeul, France) and freshman Seth Ragaini (Seymour, Conn.) also found the back of the net, en route to the team's third win in a row.

With the victory, the Owls improved to 7-2-1, 4-1-1 in the Northeast-10 Conference. The Golden Knights dropped their fourth straight game, descending to 2-8, 1-5 in the league.

In the first half of action, Templeton opened the scoring column in the 24th minute. He capitalized on a free-kick from just outside the 18-yard box, blasting a shot into the top left corner of the goal for an early 1-0 lead.

Just six minutes after that, Panzu added to the lead with his fourth goal of the season. Harry Appiah (Pawtucket, R.I.) crossed a ball into the middle of the box, where a wide-open Panzu slammed home the second Owls' goal. Panzu's third mark in as many games sent Southern into the locker room with a 2-0 advantage.

After the intermission, the two teams traded penalty kicks early on. Liam Barrett cut the Saint Rose deficit in half in the 47th minute, and Templeton netted Southern's third goal in the 65th minute. Templeton's sixth goal of the season put the Owls in front 3-1.

Late in the game, Ragaini provided the Owl with an insurance goal, capping off a 4-1 victory on the road. SCSU is now 3-1 away from home thus far.

Sophomore Andrew Esposito (East Haven, Conn.) collected three saves in his fifth win of the year, while Patrik Ohlsson made five stops for the home team.

The Owls are back in action on Oct. 3 when they take on Franklin Pierce at Jess Dow Field. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
