NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University women's soccer team fell short to Franklin Pierce, 1-0 in a very tight conference showdown. With the loss, Southern dropped to 7-4-3 overall, 5-4-3 in the Northeast-10 Conference while Franklin Pierced improved to 10-3-1, 8-3-1 in the league.
Freshman Amanda Panaro (Rockland, Mass.) scored the only goal the Ravens would need in the 11th minute of play, when she booted the ball from the 10 yard line to find the back of the net. The Owls battled tough but could not catch a break.
SCSU out shot Franklin Pierce 6-4 also taking the advantage in corner kicks 7-2.
Junior
Olivia Heffernan (Wallingford, Conn.) did not register a stop in the loss, while junior Jocelyn Leon (Lenox, Mass.) tallied three for the Ravens.
The Owls return to action on Oct. 19 as SCSU recognizes the seniors as they host UMass-Lowell at Jess Dow Field. Kickoff is set following the senior ceremonies scheduled for 7 p.m.
