SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Southern Connecticut State University women’s soccer dropped a Northeast-10 Conference game to American International 3-0. With the loss, the Owls move to 6-4-3 overall, 2-3-3 in the NE-10, while AIC improves to 7-3 overall, 5-3 in the conference.
The Yellow Jackets captured the lead early on in the first half. In the 12th minute, freshman Caroline Hernon (Montrose, Scotland) collected a feed from freshman Caroline Boyce (Canterbury, N.J.) and buried the games first goal for a 1-0 advantage. With 7 minutes left in the first half, senior Cassie Ashwell (Agawan, Mass.) tacked on a goal assisted by junior Sarah Tomlinson (Clitheroe, England) and Boyce to put the game out of reach going into halftime.
Ashwell netted her second goal of the game in the 56th minute to finalize the score at 3-0. The Owls fought vigorously, however could not overcome the deficit.

Katie DiDio (Vernon, Conn.) collected 7 saves before junior
Olivia Heffernan (Wallingford, Conn.) come into the action for the last 12 minutes of the game. Graduate Kara Potts (Westfield, Mass.) recorded three saves of her own in the shut out.
The Owls return to action Oct. 5 when they travel to Garden City, N.Y. to battle Adelphi . Game is set for 6 p.m.
