GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – For the third time this season, junior
Jenna Mallico (Milford, Conn.) netted a game-winning goal, pushing the Southern Connecticut State University women's soccer team past Adelphi in a 1-0 win over the Panthers on Tuesday night. The Owls improve to 5-3-3 overall and a 3-3-3 in Northeast-10 play while Adelphi moves to 3-4-1 overall, 3-4 in the conference.
The Owls played a 0-0 deadlock with the Panthers in regulation play until Mallico found the back of the net at the 1:46 mark into overtime.
Both SCSU and Adelphi were equal in shots with 13 each, while Adelphi had the advantage in corner kicks 7-2.
Junior
Olivia Heffernan (Wallingford, Conn.) collected four saves in the shutout, while Dorothy Connelly (Bethpage, N.Y.) tallied five of her own.
The Owls return to action Oct. 8 when they host Saint Anselm at Jess Dow Field. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
