Final Results
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Juniors
Austin Mizzell (Bristol, Conn.) and
Matthew Sorena (Brookfield, Conn.) both posted two first-place finishes to key the efforts of the Southern Connecticut State University men's swimming and diving team in its meet against The College of New Jersey on Saturday afternoon at Hutchinson Natatorium. The Lions won the meet by a score of 168-118.
Sorena finished first in both the 200 freestyle (1:40.2) and the 500 freestyle (4:44.95) and was second in the 200 fly (1:56.89). Mizzell claimed the 100 breaststroke (59.75) and the 200 breaststroke (2:10.86) and was third in the 200 IM (2:02.27).
Miguel Nesrala (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) won the 100 freestyle in 47.65 seconds and was second in the 50 freestyle (21.85).
In addition, the Owls had two relay teams record first place marks. The 200 medley relay team of
Oscar Castillo (Norwalk, Conn.), Mizzell, Nesrala and Sorena was first with a time of 1:37.39. The 400 freestyle relay tandem of Nesrala,
Michael DiVerniero (East Haven, Conn.),
Thomas Hardy (East Massapequa, N.Y.) and
Thomas Kuhn (Yakima, Wash.) placed first with a time of 3:22.07.
Chad Snyder (Winchester Center, Conn.) finished second on both the one- and three-meter boards for the Owls.
Castillo also finished second in the 100 backstroke (55.7) and Kuhn was third in the 100 fly (55.34).
The Owls are back in action on Nov. 20 for the USMMA Invite.
