Mizzell Paces Men's Swimming and Diving Against Connecticut College

Austin Mizzell had three first place marks against Connecticut College on Sunday.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Junior Austin Mizzell (Bristol, Conn.) finished first in both the 100 breaststroke (1:00.65) and 200 breaststroke (2:12.59) and also swam a leg of the winning 400 medley relay squad for the Southern Connecticut State University men's swimming and diving team in its meet against Connecticut College on Sunday afternoon. Mizzell also added a second place effort in the 200 individual medley (2:02.28) for the Owls, who lost to the Camels by a score of 147-132.

Mizzell teamed up with Domenick Errico (West Hartford, Conn.), Matthew Sorena (Brookfield, Conn.) and Miguel Nesrala (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:34.24.

Chad Snyder (Winchester Center, Conn.) was first in both one- and three-meter diving with scores of 223.6 and 220.7.

Sorena had the only other first place finish for the Owls, as he won the 200 fly with a time of 2:00.39. Oscar Castillo (Norwalk, Conn.) was second with a time of 2:03.24 in that event.

Sorena was also edged in the 200 free by two-hundredths of a second after a time of 1:43.64. Castillo placed third in that event with a mark of 1:51.02. He was also second in the 100 fly with a time of 54.44.

Errico was second in both the 100 backstroke (56.6) and 200 backstroke (2:03.91) and third in the 200 IM (2:07.87).

Jimmy Zummo (Stockholm, N.J.) took second in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.42) and third in the 200 breaststroke (2:24.61).

Nesrala was also second in the 50 free (22.38), while the 200 freestyle relay team of Nesrala, Jacob Loschiavo (Waterbury, Conn.), Thomas Hardy (East Massapequa, N.Y.) and Tim Steiskal (Naugatuck, Conn.) was also second with a time of 1:31.94.

The Owls are back in action on Friday for a meet at West Chester.
