THE WEEK AHEAD
Coming off of a draw against Pace and a victory over American International, the Southern Connecticut State University women's soccer team will play a pair of home games this week starting with a match against Adelphi on Oct. 4 at 7 p.m., followed by a game against Bentley on Oct. 8 at 1 p.m.
DEFENSIVE MINDED
The Owls recorded two more shutouts last week, upping the team total to nine on the season. Goalie Jacquelyn Fede contributed seven total saves in the two games to give her a total of 25 on the season.
CLOSING IN
With their ninth shutout, the Owls are now only five away from tying the 2000 Owls for the record of most shutouts in a season with 14.
AMONGST THE NCAA LEADERS
The Owls are within the top 25 in five categories in Division II soccer. As a team, the Owls are second in both goals against average and shutout percentage. Additionally, goalie Jacquelyn Fede's play has put her in the top five in both goals against average and save percentage.
IN THE REGIONAL RANKINGS
The Owls were ranked No. 5 in the NSCAA East region poll last week.
PIRES LEADING THE CHARGE
Sophomore Suzane Pires leads the Owls in points with four goals and three assists on the year.
TARCHINI SETS CAREER MARK
Junior Lisamarie Tarchini has set a personal career-high in points in a season with six.
WINNING TRADITION
The Owls will aim to improve on their 4-1 all-time record versus Adelphi, and will also look to build on their 7-5-2 all-time record against Bentley.
IN THE NORTHEAST-10 PRESEASON POLL
The Owls were picked eighth in the Northeast-10 Conference Coaches' preseason poll. SCSU just missed out on the league tournament in 2010.
LOTS OF RETURNING TALENT
The Owls have 16 players returning to the field this season.
ROOKIES LOOKING TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE
The Owls are looking forward to the addition of seven newcomers to the team this year - Katelyn Fortier, Hannah Spreckley, Stephanie Santos, Ashlyn Zacarelli, Raven Palmerie, Ashleigh Tracy and Bryana Poulin.
FOLLOW THE LEADERS
Head coach Adam Cohen has announced that senior Alison Ditolla and graduate student Jacquelyn Fede will serve as team captains for the Owls this year.
LOOKING BACK AT 2010
The Southern Connecticut State University women's soccer team capped off the 2010 season with an overall mark of 8-6-3. The Owls were regionally ranked for most of the campaign.
TWO EARN ALL-CONFERENCE HONORS
Forward Jenna Mallico and defender Sarah Brochu were both recognized by the Northeast-10 Conference for their play during the 2010 season.
THREE NAMED ALL-NEW ENGLAND
Jenna Mallico, Katie DiDio and Sarah Brochu were all selected All-New England for their play during the 2010 season.
FARING WELL IN THE CLASSROOM
In 2010, 14 members of the women's soccer team were selected to the Northeast-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll.
SUCCESS AS A TEAM AS WELL
The Owls were also recognized with the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Academic Team Award for posting a cumulative team grade point average of greater than 3.0.
