Women's Soccer Blanks Assumption College, 1-0

Suzane Pires talled a late goal to lift the Owls to victory, 1-0.
WORCESTER, Mass. – The Southern Connecticut State University women's soccer team defeated Assumption College tonight, 1-0. The game was at a standstill until Suzane Pires (Sao Paulo, Brazil) buried her fourth goal of the season in the 85th minute. Stephanie Santos (Naugatuck, Conn.) picked up the assist on the goal.

The Owls first quality scoring attack came in the first half when Ashleigh Tracy (Cobleskill, N.Y.) beat the goaltender and hit the post in the 35th minute. Southern Connecticut didn't get another quality scoring opportunity until Pires hit the post in the 59th minute of the second half. The Owls outshot the Greyhounds 15-8.

Goaltender Jacquelyn Fede (North Haven, Conn.) picked up her fifth consecutive shutout this season. Fede stopped both shots on net in 90 minutes of play. The Owls move to 5-0 on the season and 3-0 in Northeast-10 action while Assumption College drops to 2-2-1 and 0-2-1 in Northeast-10 play.

The Owls will return home Saturday to face Saint Michael's College. The game is scheduled to kickoff at 1 p.m.
