Women's Soccer to Play Two Games This Week

The Owls Return to Action on Sept. 28 at Pace

THE WEEK AHEAD
After splitting a pair of games last week, the No. 25 nationally ranked Southern Connecticut State University women's soccer team will look to build on its 7-1 record when the Owls travel to play Pace on Sept. 28 at 4 p.m. followed by a home contest against American International on Oct. 1 at 4 p.m.

FEDE ON FIRE
Goalie Jacquelyn Fede recorded another shutout versus New Haven last week, saving four shots over 90 minutes of play to up her season total to 16.

OWLS MAKE HISTORY
The shutout against New Haven was the seventh straight for the Owls, tying the 2000 squad for the all-time SCSU record of consecutive shutouts.

PIRES EARNS NE-10 HONORS
Sophomore Suzane Pires was named to the Northeast-10 weekly honor roll on Sept. 20. after scoring the game-winning goal against Assumption on Sept. 14 followed by a two-assist effort in the victory over St. Michael's on Sept. 17.

NATIONAL RECOGNITION
The Owls were ranked No. 25 in the nation in last week's NSCAA national poll. They were also ranked No. 4 in the NSCAA East region poll.

WINNING TRADITION
The Owls will aim to improve on their 7-4-1 all-time record versus Pace, and will also look to build on their 10-4-1 all-time record against American International.

IN THE NORTHEAST-10 PRESEASON POLL
The Owls were picked eighth in the Northeast-10 Conference Coaches' preseason poll. SCSU just missed out on the league tournament in 2010.

LOTS OF RETURNING TALENT
The Owls have 16 players returning to the field this season.

ROOKIES LOOKING TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE
The Owls are looking forward to the addition of seven newcomers to the team this year - Katelyn Fortier, Hannah Spreckley, Stephanie Santos, Ashlyn Zacarelli, Raven Palmerie, Ashleigh Tracy and Bryana Poulin.

FOLLOW THE LEADERS
Head coach Adam Cohen has announced that senior Alison Ditolla and graduate student Jacquelyn Fede will serve as team captains for the Owls this year.

LOOKING BACK AT 2010
The Southern Connecticut State University women's soccer team capped off the 2010 season with an overall mark of 8-6-3. The Owls were regionally ranked for most of the campaign.

TWO EARN ALL-CONFERENCE HONORS
Forward Jenna Mallico and defender Sarah Brochu were both recognized by the Northeast-10 Conference for their play during the 2010 season.

THREE NAMED ALL-NEW ENGLAND
Jenna Mallico, Katie DiDio and Sarah Brochu were all selected All-New England for their play during the 2010 season.

FARING WELL IN THE CLASSROOM
In 2010, 14 members of the women's soccer team were selected to the Northeast-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll.

DIDIO BECOMES ALL-TIME SAVES LEADER
Katie DiDio became the school's all-time leader in saves during the 2010 season. She closed her career with 311 stops.

SUCCESS AS A TEAM AS WELL
The Owls were also recognized with the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Academic Team Award for posting a cumulative team grade point average of greater than 3.0.

ON DECK
The Owls will play a home game against Adelphi on Oct. 4 at 7 p.m.
