Men's Soccer To Play Final Two Regular Season Games This Week

The Owls will play the final two games of the regular season this week.

THE WEEK AHEAD
The Southern Connecticut State University men's soccer team 
will play two conference games this week. On Tuesday, the  Owls will travel to Worcester, Mass. to take on  Assumption College at 7 p.m. On Friday, SCSU will host Bentley College at 7 p.m. at Jess Dow Field to wrap up the regular season. 
DIMICELI NAMED PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Senior Mario DiMiceli was named the men's soccer Northeast-10 Player Of The Week. DiMiceli scored five goals last week in leading the Owls to a 2-0 mark.
LAST TIME OUT
The Owls took down the No. 7 ranked River Hawks of UMass-Lowell on Friday, 2-1. Mario DiMiceli scored both goals for the Owls and Doural Scott and Daquan King both recorded assists in the win.
ALL-TIME VS. ASSUMPTION
SCSU leads the all-time series against Assumption by a 11-2 margin.
ALL-TIME VS BENTLEY
SCSU leads the all-time series against Bentley by a 20-1-2 margin.
LEADING THE WAY
Senior Mario DiMiceli leads the team in points with 27. He has tallied up 12 goals and three assists on the year. DiMiceli also leads the Northeast-10 Conference in points and goals scored. Redshirt junior Ross McGibney is tied with DiMiceli in assists with three.
OWLS DEFEAT BRIDGEPORT AT HOME
SCSU shutout the University of Bridgeport on Tuesday, 4-0. Senior Mario DiMiceli scored three goals in the win and recorded his second hat trick of the year. Redshirt junior Ross McGibney scored his second goal of the year and Mario Costa, Tyler Naef and Mads Larsen all had assists in the game.
SASSO BLANKS BRIDGEPORT
Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Stephen Sasso recorded his second shutout of the year against Bridgeport. He recorded five saves in the win. 
SASSO EARNS WEEKLY HONORS
Goalkeeper Stephen Sasso was named to the Northeast-10 Men's Soccer Weekly Honor last week. Sasso earned his first shutout in a 3-0 win against AIC on Oct. 9th and only gave up one goal in two games helping the Owls to a 1-1 week.
DIMICELI NAMED TO WEEKLY HONOR ROLL
Forward Mario DiMiceli earned Northeast-10 Men's Soccer Weekly honors for the third time this year. DiMiceli had a goal and two assists last week.
OWLS GET WIN VS. AIC
The Owls cruised to a 3-0 victory against conference foe AIC on Oct. 9th. Mads Larsen, Ross McGibney and Mario DiMiceli all had goal in the victory. DiMiceli also added two assists and Daquan King chipped in with an assist as well. 
SASSO RECORDS FIRST SHUTOUT
Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Stephen Sasso earned his first shutout of his career on Oct. 9th against AIC. Sasso recorded  five saves in the 3-0 win. 
A FIRST FOR LARSEN
Freshman defender Mads Larsen scored his first goal as an Owl on Oct. 9th against AIC. Larsen has a goal and an assist on the season. 
LARA SCORES FIRST GOAL OF SEASON
Senior defender Francisco Lara scored his first goal of the season in a 3-1 loss against Franklin Pierce on Oct. 3. Lara has recorded a goal and an assist on the season leading the back end in points. 
PERRY SELECTED TO WEEKLY HONOR ROLL
Senior captain Luke Perry was selected to the Northeast-10 Conference Weekly Honor Roll on Sept. 24. Perry had a goal and an assist leading the Owls to a 1-0-1 week. 
OWLS TIE AGAINST SAINT MICHAEL'S
SCSU came away with a tie on Sept. 22, 2-2 against Saint Michael's College. Senior Luke Perry scored his first goal of the season and fellow senior Mario DiMiceli also added a goal giving him five on the season. 
OWLS PREVAIL OVER NEW HAVEN
Daquan King scored his third goal of this season in a 2-0 win on Sept. 18 against the University of New Haven. Mario Costa added a goal late in the match on a penalty kick to seal the victory. 
CUMPSTONE RECORDS THIRD SHUTOUT
Goalkeeper Greg Cumpstone recorded his third shutout on Sept. 18 blanking the New Haven Chargers 2-0. Cumpstone now has three shutouts in four victories for the Owls. 
OWLS STAY PERFECT
SCSU had their first road test on Sept. 15 at Stonehill and were able to escape with a victory, as it beat the Skyhawks 1-0. The win improved their record to 3-0 on the season. The game was scoreless until Doural Scott scored his first goal of the year in the 81st minute. 
DiMICELI EARNS WEEKLY HONORS
Senior Mario DiMiceli was selected to the Northeast-10 weekly  Conference Honor Roll on Sept. 11 for his performance against the College of Saint Rose. 
OWLS DEFEAT DOWLING AT HOME
The Owls were in action on Sept. 11 at home when they defeated Dowling College 2-1 to get their second win. Mario DiMiceli scored his fourth goal of the season late in the first half, which proved to be the difference in the match. 
DiMICELI SCORES HAT TRICK IN DEBUT
Mario DiMiceli scored three times for the Owls in his debut  as SCSU cruised to a 4-0 victory over the College of Saint Rose. DiMiceli's hat trick was the first for the Owls since Harry Appiah did it back in 2009. 
A FIRST FOR COSTA
Senior Mario Costa scored a goal in the 4-0 win over Saint Rose. This marked Costa's first career goal. 
WELCOME TO THE CLUB
IN SEASON OPENERS
The Owls are now 30-9-6 all-time in season openers.
IN THE NE-10 PRESEASON POLLS
SCSU was selected fifth in the Northeast-10 Conference preseason poll, as voted by the league's coaches.
LOOKING BACK AT 2011
The Southern Connecticut State University men's soccer team capped off the 2011 season with an overall mark of 8-8-1. The Owls were nationally ranked as high as No. 12 during the year and also qualified for the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament.
TEMPLETON RAKES IN ACADEMIC HONORS
Senior Paul Templeton was selected as an Academic All-American by the College Sports Information Directors of America (Third-Team honoree) for his work in the classroom and on the pitch during the 2011 season. He was also named an Academic All-Region selection by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
DUO NAMED NE-10 ACADEMIC ALL-CONFERENCE
Paul Templeton and Yoni Feldman were both named to the Northeast-10 Conference Men's Soccer All-Academic Team following the conclusion of the 2011 season. Both were also named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District team.
STRONG CAREER COMES TO A CLOSE
In addition to an array of academic honors, Paul Templeton was also selected to the All-Region and All-ECAC teams for his play in 2011.
OWLS THRIVE INDIVIDUALLY IN THE CLASSROOM
Thirteen members of the 2011 squad were named to the Northeast-10 Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll for their efforts in the classroom during the 2011-12 academic year.
PERRY MAKES A QUICK IMPACT
Luke Perry finished second on the club with 11 points (four goals, three assists) in his first season with the Owls in 2011.
LARA POSTS NEW CAREER NUMBERS
Junior Francisco Lara set new career-highs in goals (three), assists (two) and points (eight) during the 2011 season
ON DECK
The Northeast-10 Conference tournament begins on Oct. 30.
