Owls Defeat Franklin Pierce, 2-1

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University women's soccer team took the lead early and played hard defense to defeat Franklin Pierce, 2-1, in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup at Jess Dow Field.

The Owls (3-1-1, 1-1-1 NE-10) struck for the 1-0 lead right in the beginning of the game. Bryana Poulin (Webster, Mass.) took a shot in the first minute that was saved, but was deflected by the defender past the goalkeeper for the goal.

The Owls took a 2-0 lead later on in the 39th minute when Jessica Spezzano (Oakville, Conn.) moved all alone down the field to score after a pass to the top of the net.



The Owls led 2-0 at halftime.

In the second half, Franklin Pierce (3-2, 2-2 NE-10) scored in the 68th minute when Hannah Weagle scored on a cross and a score to the top of the net.

The Owls played good defense down the stretch to limit Franklin Pierce's shots and to seal the victory.

Elizabeth Nickerson (Seaford, Va.) allowed one goal with five saves in 90 minutes of play.
