SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Southern Connecticut State University women's soccer team was defeated by AIC in overtime, 2-1, in a Northeast-10 Conference game in Springfield, Mass.
Bonnie Boornazian scored the game-winning goal for AIC (3-2-1, 2-1-1 NE-10) in the 98th minute, assisted to Sarah Tomlinson and Caroline Boyce.
AIC took a 1-0 lead towards the end of the first half when Boyce scored a goal in the 41st minute, unassisted.
AIC took that lead into halftime, and out-shot the Owls 12-2 in the first half.
In the second half, the Owls (3-2-1, 1-2-1 NE-10) tied the game, 1-1, when
Hannah Spreckley (York, England) scored a goal in the 52nd minute, as a result of a corner kick by
Stephanie Santos (Naugatuck, Conn.).
AIC then tried to control the remainder of the half with many shot opportunities, and out-shooting the Owls 8-3, and 23-7 for the game.
In overtime, the Owls try to score first with early shots. AIC had a golden chance in the 96th minute with a corner kick by Boyce, but a foul was called against AIC before the game-winner.
Elizabeth Nickerson (Seaford, Va.) allowed two goals on five saves in 100 minutes of play.
The Owls will return to action on Saturday at Southern New Hampshire at 7 p.m.
