Jannitto Leads Owls Past Southern New Hampshire, 1-0

The Owls defeat SNHU, 1-0.
Box Score MANCHESTER, N.H. - Junior Janie Jannitto (Hamden, Conn.) scored the eventual game-winning goal as the Southern Connecticut State University women's soccer team defeated Southern New Hampshire, 1-0, in a Northeast-10 Conference game in Manchester, N.H.

The game remained scoreless in the first half.

Despite being out-shot for the game by a large margin, the Owls made their limited opportunities count when they had them.

The Penmen outshot the Owls in the game, 14-3.

In the 79th minute, the Owls (4-2-1, 2-2-1 NE-10) took the 1-0 lead when Jannitto set up and then fired a 20-yard strike into the net past the goaltender to the left of the post.

The Owls would hold the lead with their defense despite the Penmen's many shot opportunities as time wound down.

The Penmen (4-3-1, 2-3-1 NE-10) had a corner kick opportunity in the 86th minute, but the ensuing shot by Daniel Abruzzese went high. The Penmen took some more shots, but sophomore goalkeeper Katelyn Fortier (Hudson, N.H.) saved the shots to help seal the win.

Fortier had three saves and allowed no goals in 90 minutes of play.

The Owls will return to action at home on Wednesday against LeMoyne at 4 p.m.
